Patrol officers from the Bridgeport troop conducting a motor vehicle enforcement detail stopped 20-year-old Hamden resident Jocelyn Nyas Serrano-Rivera at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, when she was spotted committing a motor vehicle violation.
During the stop, troopers reported that they immediately detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, prompting a search of the Acura TSX.
Further investigation by K9 Silver, a narcotics detection dog led troopers to the discovery and seizure of more than a pound of marijuana, a half kilogram of cocaine and an estimated $2,500 in cash. Following the seizure, both Serrano-Rivera and her passenger, 25-year-old Derby resident Jonathan Brito were taken into custody and arrested.
Both Brito and Serrano-Rivera were charged with conspiracy, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of cocaine within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of untaxed marijuana. Serrano-Rivera was also cited for speeding.
Serrano-Rivera was held on $150,000 bond, while Brito was held on $250,000 bond. Both were scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon.
